Day 175 of 365: Killer, Time-Friendly Workouts

Today was the first day of the Underground Strength Certification here in Austin, and more specifically, the Read Black Gym!  It was an action-packed day, and the energy of the cert. participants has been off the charts - These guys and gals are freakin' HUNGRY for knowledge and opportunity!  I'm lovin' it!
It never fails....whenever I get the amazing opportunity to help Zach out with a UGS cert., I find myself becoming more and more fired up about what I do - my mission.  It's really simple: I was put on this earth to add value to the lives of others.  I am aware now that I do this is many ways, but my primary tool is coaching!  I coach fitness.  To some of you, that may seem more like a job description than a LIFE MISSION, but I coach with passion and truly give a shit about the well-being of my athletes.  In this way,  others are able receive and adopt a life build on the foundation of health, strength, and energy!  Those of you that have already made that life altering choice - to live a life of strength and energy - know the power it creates in all other areas of your life, True?
This may be a stretch, but my mission is simple, but has profound effects on not only me, but those around me.  This parallels the type of training that is being taught this weekend.  It is simple(not easy), but profoundly effective in achieving results!
Things do not always have to be complex or complicated.  In fact, sometimes it is far better when it is cut and dry!
Check out some of today's workouts, and give them a try for yourself!  Drop a comment below with your thoughts on today's post and the results of your LEG CRANK and DB COMPLEX LADDER!

Day 151 of 365: Mix It Up!

Guys!
You know that I am a big fan of constantly changing your work load stimulus.  This is a great video of one of Zach Even-Esh's badass athletes showing us all how it's done!  The beauty in this training style is that it is obviously very challenging, but it is a BLAST!  Athlete's can't wait to get back in the gym when they are given the freedom to play a role in the creation of their own SWOD.  This results in consistency and high intensity output.  Exactly what you want from your athletes!  Check out this video and try some of this stuff at your gym...plus some!  Mix it up and have fun with it!

REMEMBER:
Zach Even-Esh will be in Austin on March 24th and 25th for his last Underground Strength Certification out of the Dirty Jerzee.  It's going to be an OUTSTANDING experience!

Day 138 of 365: PRs For ALL!!!

This morning, the 7am STRICTLY STRENGTH crew crushed some sumo deadlifts.  We started with a badass and challenging partner warmup, focusing on primarily bodyweight movements with a buddy carry tossed in the mix to start loading the body in prepration for the day's work!
We then moved into a dynamic effort sumo dead session of 10 sets of 2 reps @ 70% of their 1RM conventional deadlift.
I wanted each of them(and their nervous system) primed and ready to pull BIG loads QUICKLY!
It proved to work perfectly!
Every single athlete pulled a new sumo PR!!!
You'll get to see them knockin' them out in the video below, but I need to mention that every athlete in the MW 530am class - who did the same SWOD on Wednesday morning - also set new PRs!!!
All I have to say is...
THIS SHIT WORKS!!!
New session of the STRICTLY STRENGTH PROJECT(prerequisite for the SSClass) is starting soon!
Look for registration info to pop up very soon!

Day 135 of 365: Underground Lessons In Strength

I was "flipping through" my old videos on my phone today, and came across some clips of our training sessions with Zach Even-Esh and his certification crew from about 6+ months ago.  As I watched these, I automatically got fired up for his upcoming visit to the ATX for his next Underground Strength Certification.
To be a part of his certification was freakin' awesome!  The types of people that show up for his certs are just like you and me in the sense of we are all driven to always advance our knowledge so that we may pass it on to others, and by doing so, add value to their lives!
To put it simply, the experience is worth the price of admission alone...
THEN...
you get blown away with the training methods and business know-how that Even-Esh provides.
Zach does this is such a way that makes you feel like you are just chatting with your best friend...the atmosphere is electric at times, and comfortable and casual at others.
It's truly one of the most valuable certifications and experiences I've had as a trainer and coach, and has completely altered the way I train myself and my athletes...
ALL FOR THE BETTER!
Check out some of our training session below.

Days 119 &120 of 365: Playground Warrior

First off, I tried to upload this yesterday afternoon, but for some reason I getting shut-down time after time.  So, that is why there was an absent post for yesterday.
But, I am stoked to share this with you!!!
Michael Winchester and I had the awesome experience of holding a combine for the University of Texas Men's Rugby Team yesterday morning.  Some of UT's best athletes came out to show what they had to offer in hopes of being selected as one of the club's new additions.  There were some absolute studs out there that crushed every test we threw at them, but I will be honest....I was most impressed with the athletic abilities of an unassuming, middle-aged man named Pat.
Pat was wondering around the UT campus while his son was at a swim practice.  Luckily, we were around the playground the same time he was, because the show this man put on was AMAZING!!!  I will just let you see for yourselves, but more importantly than what he did was what he was doing - in the broader sense.  This guy was seeking out ways to stay active and strong, and in doing so, going against the grain of our society.
Society says that, as you age, you need to be more cautious about the physical activities you engage in...
BULLSHIT!!!
This man is a perfect example of why you must continue to push your limits and live like a kid.

PEOPLE!!!
GO AGAINST THE GRAIN!!!
Your life will be so much richer if you do!
Enjoy your Sunday.

Day 118 of 365: The Feather-Weight Fury Throwdown VIDEO!!!

THIS. WAS. EPIC.
I hate to use such a douche-bag term as "Epic", but this event truly embodies the word.
I will just let you all watch this and see for yourselves!
Amazing efforts from both athletes!!!

This is his response...

Day 33 of 365: Mix Up Your Push Up!

Hey Guys and Gals

I opened up CrossFit.com and saw this BADASS picture, and was inspired to write a post on it.

Bare minimum?  I think NOT!!! Next Level BADASS!!!
In yesterday's post, there were also a ton of different variations of pushup.  Some with sandbags, some with chains, some with bands, some with all of the above....and that's not even talking about hand positions or pressing off of something other than the floor, like a set of rings or dumbells!
It pretty obvious that there are a million different styles of pushups out there for the picking.
So why is it that you rarely see people mixing it up?

Well, my theory is that most people don't change it up because they are either unaware of the options, OR they are just plan SALLY.  They don't want to do anything harder than the bare minimum.
You know those people, right?
Isn't that shit annoying?
It should piss you off a little bit.  I know I can't stand that crap!
Take another look at the video from yesterday or the photo above and ask yourself if you think they are OK with the bare minimum?
HELL NO!!!
They are bustin' it to get better at even the most simplistic movements.

These people should inspire you to mix up your push up for some ridiculous strength and mass gains!
Go right now and knock 3 sets of 10 pushups, using a different variation each set.  Let me know how it goes and which option YOU like the best!
I dig on the band and chains, personally!
See y'all tomorrow.
